Kao Industrial (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of consumer and chemical products, and SCG Packaging PLC, to be a leading multinational consumer packaging solutions provider, have recently signed a memorandum of cooperation to introduce innovations and sustainability to consumers with an aim to reduce pollution and create a livable and sustainable world for future generations.

Mr. Yuji Shimizu, President of Kao Industrial (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said, “Kao and SCGP have the same goal in terms of our commitment to contributing to a more sustainable society and planet. The current signing of the MOU, therefore, marks another milestone of success in building significant synergies between our two companies with a common goal of developing and providing eco-friendly products and creating sustainable solutions for consumers. Kao’s ESG strategy is well-known as the Kirei Lifestyle. It is about how we make people’s everyday life more beautiful, how we help make thoughtful choices for society with our non-polluting products and how we make the world healthier and cleaner.

Kao is aiming to reduce CO2 emissions to Zero by 2040 and achieve ZERO Plastic Packaging Wastes by 2040. In other words, the amount of plastic used must equal the amount of reused or recycled plastic.

Mr. Wichan Jitpukdee, Chief Executive Officer, SCG Packaging Public Company Limited, SCGP, says SCGP is delighted to cooperate with Kao since both companies share the same goal to create social and environmental sustainability as well as to create benefits for consumers. SCGP, represented by Mr. Soonthorn Yongvibulsiri, ESG and Sustainability Director, attends “DPIM PIMD sending recycled paper back to the society” Activity in which 1,350 kilograms of used paper from the Department of Primary Industries and Mines were taken into recycled process as a part of “80 Years of Ministry of Industry, 8,000 Kilograms of Recycling and Returning to the Society Project”. On this occasion, Mr. Nirun Yingmahisaranon, Director-General of the Department of Primary Industries and Mines and Executive of the agency witnesses the handover.

The Department of Primary Industries and Mines is one of the seven agencies under the Ministry of Industry that joins the project called “80 Years of Ministry of Industry, 8,000 Kilograms of Recycling and Returning to The Society” a cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and SCGP that aims to raise awareness of waste paper separation and promote Circular Economy principles. As of May 31, 2022, the project has collected a total of 6,997 kilograms of used paper, almost reaching a target of 8,000 kilograms in July 2022. The total amount of paper collected by SCGP will be recycled, made into new products, and given to the Ministry of Industry for public use. The distribution will be conducted through the Ministry of Industry Volunteer Project.

SCGP Creates Circular Design in the international exhibition

SCGP sponsors environmentally friendly and recyclable display stands made from recycled paper in the Thai exhibition booth titled ‘Never-Ending Story: Thailand’s materials today and tomorrow’ in zone 360 – global collaboration at the 2022 CIRCULAR DESIGN EXHIBITION. The exhibition has been held at Taiwan Design Museum, Taipei City, Taiwan from March 15 to July 3, 2022.

SCGP developed the display stand in cooperation with Thinkk Studio, whom the Creative Economy Agency (CEA) assigned to set up the booth in this exhibition. With a simple design that is easy to transport and assemble, the recyclable display stands are strong and able to hold the weight. They are also made from recycled paper in order to promote resource utilization, according to the Circular Economy principles.

SCGP reveals plan to expand production capacity under its Fiber Packaging Business with additional 75,000 tons per year capacity. The project size is valued at the THB2,450 million and is expected for commercial start-up in the middle of 2023. Latest available automation technology and printing application are utilized to advance capabilities and meet growing demands for corrugated carton as the economy recovered. This investment is part of the efforts to strengthen SCGP’s leadership position in ASEAN.

Mr. Wichan Jitpukdee, Chief Executive Officer, SCG Packaging Public Company Limited, SCGP, reports that, in its continued drive to expand, the Company has recently invested to raise production capacity of its high-quality corrugated carton and sheet board with additional 75,000 tons per year. This latest investment is intended to level up SCGP’s capabilities to deliver packaging solutions to the growing demands along with the continued economic recovery. This investment would enhance our consumer-linked customer network and the synergies from integration with upstream Packaging Paper Business.

The investment is through Thai Containers Group Company Limited (TCG), a 70:30 joint venture between SCGP and Rengo Company Limited, Japan. The THB2,450 million investment budgets will go toward machinery, installation, and working capital. The commercial start-up is expected in mid-2023.

SCGP is confident that the latest investment will enable the Company to maximize its assets utilization and enhance production capabilities with the latest available technologies, including robotics, automation and printing applications. In addition, the Company would be able to improve logistics cost competitiveness and supply chain efficiency as the expanded capacities will be located in existing facilities of TCG and its subsidiaries in Samutprakarn and Samutsakorn, which are clustering with fast-growing customer segments.

SCGP has assessed the demand for corrugated carton in Thailand to be on an up-trend, driven by the increased use of packaging relating to consumer related segments, including food and beverages, frozen and processed foods for export, consumers goods, and hygiene products. In addition, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) continues to climb and drive exports under the government’s investment promotion policy as well as the economic recovery contributing to the growth of the packaging industry.

SCGP is committed to fulfilling and facilitating consumers’ increasing preference through products ranging from fiber packaging, performance and polymer packaging, and other outstanding solutions. Currently, it operates over 50 facilities across Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and Spain.

Conimex Co., Ltd. by Mr. Karan Tejasen – Chief Operating Officer, Performance and Polymer Packaging, SCGP, receives Asia Pacific Supplier Award 2022 for environmental sustainability from Shell Lubricant Asia Pacific, represented by Ms. Sukanya Teeraviboon – Country Planning Manager – Thailand, The Shell Company of Thailand Limited and team.

Conimex is one of the 14 companies, among other 400 nominated companies, that were selected for their exemplary performance and outstanding display of environmental sustainability in the Asia-Pacific region. Shell, a world-class energy company, has implemented and committed to the policy to protect the environment and achieve sustainability.
The Asia Pacific Supplier Award for Environmental Sustainability derived from the collaboration between Conimex and Shell in several projects, including the introduction of engine oil plastic gallons that contain 25% of Post-Consumer Recycled Resin (PCR). Altogether, Conimex helped reduce 439 tons of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) or 17% of Shell’s total CO2 reduction in ASEAN in 2021.
The award shows trust and recognition from the international partner. It is a sign of the long and strong business partnership between the two companies that lasts for more than 40 years.
