GLOBAL SUMMIT OF WOMEN 2022

Thailand received the honor to host Global Summit of Women 2022. Held between 23 and 25 June 2022 at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at Central World, the event brought together leading women from across the world to address “Women: Creating Opportunities in the New Reality.”

 

Playing host to this global event, Thailand has proven its potential to organize international forums and also to serve as a “World Destination.” Not only that Global Summit of Women 2022 brought spotlight to the need to drive economy in post-pandemic period and the importance of technologies/innovations, but it also promoted gender equality. Everyone, regardless of gender, could contribute to economic development. This international forum, moreover, fostered networking, international collaborations, exchanges of experiences, and inspiration for women. Connected were prominent females, be they employees, business owners, consumers, or investors.

Mrs. Kaisri Nuengsigkapian, Independent Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee, SCGP, sat in the organizing committee of the latest Global Summit of Women. SCGP therefore got a role to play at this women leaders’ international conference, which was “carbon neutral”. Greenhouse-gas emissions of summit activities were evaluated, as the event focused on curbing its environmental impacts in every step from participants’ transport to catering and waste management.

SCGP supported the cause by providing eco-friendly souvenirs and decor that celebrated Thai identity. Mrs. Kaisri emphasized that via the event, SCGP once again demonstrated its value and potential on an international stage.

“SCGP always takes concrete actions to set examples of how to take care of the earth. Today, waste separation and tree planting alone are no longer enough. That’s why via this summit, we have shown what responsible businesses can do for society and the environment. As we supported the summit, we also demonstrated our design capabilities and creativity. Our products are functional. Aside, our businesses resonate with all important topics the summit sought to address,” Mrs. Kaisri said.

“SCGP’s participation in the global summit will increase its international recognition, paving the way for the firm to reaffirm its packaging leadership and to expand further into overseas markets. On top of that, this participation will show the world what we can do.”

Lotus-Shaped Paper Float

Design Concept: Modernity, simplicity, durability, and beauty are at the core of this design. To visualize the concept, paper is layered with folding and forming. This float can hold a candle without the help of glue or other materials. As a result, recycling it is easy.

Background Partition for Khon Display

Design Concept: Inspired by Thai stupa, this background partition is exquisite. It is made through simple folding and forming techniques. Yet, its 3D pop-up gimmick enhances appeal and functionality.

Summit Logo Model

Design Concept: It is a 3D model of the global summit’s logo. It is presentable from all angles. Its exterior can be interpreted in two different ways: a flowerpot communicating about beauty and femininity; and a tree that speaks about the environment.

Elephant-Shaped Souvenir

Design Concept: This model souvenir is in the shape of elephant because this animal is strongly associated with Thainess. But for a modern touch, it embraces Polygon style. This elephant looks strong and formidable. Colorful prints on its paper parts are reminiscent of prism, which represents open-mindedness and growth mindset.

The choices of materials reflect SCGP’s resource efficiency and environmental friendliness. The manufacturing process also relies on folding and forming because such techniques are friendly to the environment. Better still, all these products are functional, lightweight, foldable, reusable, and recyclable.

SCGP adopts new logo to conform with its vision as a leading multinational company, to foster recognition of sustainable business vision

SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SCGP) has adopted a new corporate logo that aligns with the vision to become a leading multinational integrated packaging solutions provider and reinforce business operations with targets that combine quality and sustainable growth. The inspiration is derived from the concept of the infinite growth of the business, community, society, and the world.

Mr. Wichan Jitpukdee, Chief Executive Officer, SCG Packaging Public Company Limited, or SCGP, revealed that SCGP has drawn up a vision to transform the Company into “Multinational Consumer Packaging Solutions Provider” while putting in place a business plan to create growth with quality and sustainability. The goal is to expand the business and marketing operations to regional spheres such as ASEAN, Europe, North America, etc., the introduction of integrated solutions, the development of new products and innovations as well as services that are universal and sustainable, in order to offer experiences beyond expectation and the fulfill the demand of customers and consumers under the most modern production process and technology with the highest standard. The new SCGP logo has been designed under the infinite growth of the business, community, society and the world concept based on the “SCG” logo with the use of large, bold capital letters to convey trust, confidence, and good governance that has long been accumulated over time. The letter “P” is the essential identity to represent “Packaging & Possibility” that together have been developed from “People”, including employees, partners, customers, and the society, with the “Passion” that everyone shares for our better “Planet” and the readiness for the “Infinite” growth. The four letters have been redesigned to be more rounded to reflect flexibility and adaptability, along with the selection of blue as the principal color of the logo to represent the brand’s reliable personality, while the orange color represents the inspiring personality based on the blue field. When the two colors are combined, the overall image represents a stable and sustainable driving force of creativity combined with the “Infinity Growth Line” to reinforce the circle of endless growth, as in the readiness to meet the demand of customers, consumers, partners, and the society.

EASY to RECYCLE – Thiết kế sản phẩm bao bì đóng gói phù hợp cho việc tái chếbao gồm thiết kế cấu trúc dễ lắp ráp để tái sử dụng và thiết kế đồ họa trên bao bì có thể truyền đạt cho cho khách hàng hiểu về quá trình tái chếđơn giản nhất.

 

UPCYCLE – Thiết kế bao bì để làm tăng tuổi thọ của bao bì trước khi thải bỏ bằng phương pháp thay đổi hình dạng của bao bì sản phẩm (Transformation) sau khi được sử dụng để Tái sử dụng (Reuse). Bất cứ nếp gấp, cắt hoặc lỗ thủng có sẵn trên bao bì từ ban đầu phải được giữ nguyên trong quá trình sản xuất. Ngoại trừ trường hợp sản phẩm bao bì nhựa, bạn có thể sử dụng dụng cụ để cắt, đâm, đục lỗ và dán trong quá trình xử lý. SCGP delivered continuous growth in H1/2022, with impressive Q2 at Baht 37,982 million expects gradual recovery of ASEAN’s packaging demand, raised revenue target to Baht 150,000 million

SCGP reiterates the Companys business potential with strong revenue from sales in H1/2022 at Baht 74,616 million, an increase of 31% compares to the same period of last year with Q2/2022 revenue from sales of Baht 37,982 million, which is an increase of 27% from the same period of last year. Solid revenue was mainly due to the increased demand for fiber packaging and foodservice packaging, continuous growth of all businesses, and the consolidation of financial performance from M&Ps. As demand for packaging in the ASEAN region has been recovering continuously, the Company is heading toward the second half of the year with aims to relentlessly pursue long term growth with quality, and develop sales channels to expand customer base to strategic and highgrowth markets in tandem with business synergy to strengthen operational efficiency throughout the supply chain. Meanwhile, the revenue target for 2022 has been raised to Baht 150,000 million. The Board of Directors has approved H1/2022 interim dividend payment of 0.25 Baht per Share with XDdate on August 8, 2022.

Mr. Wichan Jitpukdee, Chief Executive Officer, SCG Packaging Public Company Limited SCGP, disclosed  H1/2022 revenue from sales of Baht 74,616 million, an increase of 31% compares to the same period of last year. The performance was a result of continuous growth in all businesses, as well as the consolidation of the financial performance of Duy Tan, Intan Group, and Deltalab while there was an increase in demand for fiber packaging and foodservice packaging. The EBITDA was Baht 10,365 million, a decrease of 4% from the same period of last year. Profit for this period was Baht 3,514 million, a decrease of 20% compares to the same period of the previous year due mainly to global increase in raw materials and energy costs across industries.

The Q2/2022 performance was significantly improved comparing to Q1/2022, with revenue from sales totaling Baht 37,982 million, or an increase of 27% compares to the same period of last year. Profit for this period was Baht 1,856 million, a decrease of 18% from last year, while EBITDA was Baht 5,478 million, a decrease of 2% compares to the same period of last year.

On July 26, 2022, the Board of Directors of SCGP has approved H1/2022 interim dividend payment of 0.25 Baht per Share (Baht 1,073 million), which is payable on August 24, 2022. XD-date on August 8, 2022, and record date on August 9, 2022.

Mr. Wichan further said that the overall demand for packaging in the second half of the year for Thailand and the ASEAN region is expected to gradually improve from the government’s policy to reopen the country to stimulate the economy and boost the tourism industry along with related businesses. Consumers have become more confident in spending on consumer goods while the demands for packaging from various industries are improving, especially demands for frozen food, canned food, and pet food sector which are expected to continuously increase through the rest of the year. All these are positive factors in relation to the demand for packaging. However, it is still necessary to continue monitoring the global macroeconomic situations such as the rising inflation, potential economic recession and prolonged heightening in energy prices, and ongoing geopolitical conflicts in Europe.

As for the business direction in the second half of the year, SCGP aims for quality growth with a total sales revenue target for this year at Baht 150,000 million, while continue to prudently manage the business operations and investments for business. Total investment budget for this year remains at approximately Baht 20,000 million which includes maintenance & production efficiency improvement projects, organic expansions, and mergers and partnerships (M&P). In the second quarter of 2022, SCGP has invested in the organic expansion project to increase the production capacity of fiber packaging in Thailand by another 75,000 tons per year to meet the growing demand for packaging in the country. Most recently, the Company has entered into the packaging material recycling business in Peute Recycling B.V. (Peute), and strategically invested in Imprint Energy Inc., the USA, a producer of printed batteries with an investment of approximately Baht 105 million for 3.3% share. Imprint is continuously growing in the industry with high growth potential. The knowledge and expertise acquired could be applied for future expansion in the ASEAN region, along with potential usage of technology for intelligent packaging.

SCGP continues to pursue sustainable business operations in line with the ESG framework, to achieve its goal of Net Zero in 2050 through continuous development and optimization of production processes. In addition, the Company continues to grow the proportion of renewable energy, and develop innovative products & services and solutions with consideration of the effect on the environment, while expanding cooperation network to drive ESG. Recently, SCGP has announced a collaboration project with business partners such as Kao Industrial (Thailand) Company Limited (Kao), a leading manufacturer of consumer and chemical products, to create innovative and sustainable packaging. The partnership represents an important synergy between two companies that share mutual goals in developing environmental-friendly products and creating sustainable solutions for consumers.

SCGP x THINKK Studio – Design Talks “TRANSFORMATION” Waste to Value

    Recently, SCGP and THINKK Studio hold a Design Talks webinar called “TRANSFORMATION” Waste to Value on July 23, 2022, to address the commitment to excellence in business under the concept of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and Circular Economy. SCGP always concentrates on natural resource reduction, the use of biodegradable materials, and the reuse of resources.

 

    Upcycle is one of SCGP concept that waste materials are recycled through a design and innovation process to prolong the material life cycle and create new products which are both distinctive and value-added.

 

    To represent the reinforcement of the community enterprise development projects, SCGP held a workshop in which the community enterprises in the field of handicrafts and students of design and materials science can share new ideas and create an invention from SCGP’s waste materials. Moreover, THINKK Studio, a Thai design studio, came to support them in the design thinking process and waste development.

 

    Mr. Decha Archjananun, Creative Director and Co-Founder of THINKK Studio, told about the studio’s diverse work from interior design, and furniture design to the experiment with a variety of materials. It, therefore, became a source of interest in the value-added of natural wasted.

 

    For example, ‘City Materials’ project that the team created a new invention by selecting 6 waste materials in Bangkok including plastic bags, coffee grounds, construction waste, incense sticks, government lottery paper, and scrap wood from cutting branches.

 

    ‘DEWA & DEWI 2021’, was the idea to create furniture such as student desk sets by using waste materials from entrepreneurs in the industry and agriculture. The design was considered by prolongation and cost-effectiveness of using natural resources.

 

    At the recent “TRANSFORMATION” Waste to Value workshop, Ms. Jarawee Thongboonruang, Project Coordinator, Mr. Phattharakorn Maneesilawong and Ms. Satita Saengsawat, Junior Furniture and Product Designer of THINKK Studio, shared the process of thinking, experiment and design on the transformation of 4 types of scrap materials as SCGP provided including Paper Bands, recycled plastic ropes from the blowing process of plastic bottles, plastic straws, and crushed recycled plastic.

 

    The designers started by investigating the different properties of materials such as the Paper Band and recycled plastic ropes, which are suitable for forming by weaving and polishing in Thai handicraft styles. The cylindrical plastic tube was proper for a comfortable grip. Crushed plastic was supposed to be melted into a template and formed like a plate with a durable surface.

 

    Ultimately, THINKK Studio formed 6 products from waste materials with different properties that we could use in our daily life: vase, lamp, handbag, tray, fan and tote bag. All participants in this workshop followed the instruction for these experiments afterward.

 

    The workshop generated more engagement among the community enterprises and students to let them bring the waste plastic bags to the heating process until they come out in thin sheets. These sheets became decorations with colourful and unique designs.

 

     Mr. Decha stated that the value added of waste materials began at the elementary level for individuals, such as using simple handicraft skills to make waste or household waste last longer. From the individual level extended to the community level where waste disposal and collection, waste processing must be considered.

 

    Furthermore, waste development at the industrial level has required collaboration with a network of the private sectors, government and research agencies because the significant thing is how to redesign waste material as effective as a new design and conform to the consumer lifestyle.

 

    Reviving the waste material through value-added may depend on the attitude and creativity of designers to foresee the result and determine how the product will be enhanced throughout the process of thought, touch and experiment with the possibilities of invention without any limitations.

 

    As THINKK Studio experimented with SCGP waste materials in this workshop which is more successful since we received many good feedbacks from participants. It is such a place providing opportunities to share creative perspectives and skills among students and community enterprises, who specialize in exquisite craftsmanship as the original capital.

 

    Lastly, it assured that all parties were inspired to develop their inventions. Upcycling notion should not manifest as a temporary trend but it is the key variable that will drive the future direction of product design with environment concerns.

SCGP enters into Peute, the major European packaging materials recycling business with a million-ton capacity of recovered paper, progressively strengthen sustainability target

SCGP strategically moved into the rapidly-growing packaging materials recycling business via the acquisition of 100% stake in Peute, the Netherlandslargest independent packaging materials recycling and trading company. The acquisition enables the Company to attain an additional one million tons per year of recovered paper and strengthens its integrated packaging business, from sources of raw materials, upstream and downstream production through to integrated packaging solutions, while also augments the ability to fulfil consumersneeds for sustainable packaging and enhances the efficiency of recycling operations in ASEAN with leading technologies.

Mr. Wichan Jitpukdee, Chief Executive Officer, SCG Packaging Public Company Limited, SCGP, announced that SCGP has completed the transaction to acquire 100% stake in Peute Recycling B.V. (Peute), the largest packaging materials recycling company covering both recovered paper and plastic in the Netherlands. Payment for the 100% stake is the immediate 78.19 million Euro (approximately 2,875 million Baht). This purchase is through SCGP Solutions (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of SCGP. Peute’s financial performance will be consolidated from July 2022 onward. The acquisition is an important pillar of the Company’s long-term strategy to strengthen all levels of packaging business from raw material sources, upstream and downstream production through to the integrated packaging solutions. It also represents another crucial milestone in the Company’s merger and partnership (M&P) plan.

Peute is the largest independent packaging materials recycling and trading company of paper and plastic in the Netherlands with a strong relationship with customers for over 60 years. With solid operation and ability to continue business growth amid economic challenges in Europe, the Company recorded a revenue of 249 million Euro (approx. 9,160 million Baht) in 2021 with a profit of 3.2 million Euro (approx. 120 million Baht) and assets of 52 million Euro (approx. 1,930 million Baht) at the end of last year. Peute currently poses the ability to competitively source 1.0 million tons per year of recovered paper (RCP) and 0.1 million tons per year of recovered plastics at their facility in Dordrecht with ongoing project to relocate the facility to Alblasserdam, nearby Rotterdam port, to double the sourcing capacity and improve cost management efficiency. Mr. Wichan says he is confident that the latest investment will enable SCGP to quickly expand and grow in the packaging materials recycling business which is one of the integral parts of the Company’s long-term strategy to strengthen all levels of packaging operation, covering from upstream to downstream production, while also enhance the internal integration of SCGPs’ packaging solutions.

The investment is aligned with the growing global awareness of sustainability, which leads to significant increase in the usage of recycled materials. The ability to directly access greater volumes of recovered paper and plastic will enable SCGP to meet the surging market demands as part of the evolving consumer trends. Furthermore, Peute’s expertise in advanced waste management and related technologies would help strengthen SCGP’s efficiency in packaging materials recycling operation in ASEAN.

As SCGP has been continuously expanding the diversified and integrated packaging business, the key strategic raw material for fiber packaging operation is recovered paper. At present, SCGP’s annual usage of recovered paper reaches 4.4 million tons and is expected to increase along with the expansion of packaging paper capacity going forward. This expansion will boost SCGP’s competitiveness in terms of recovered paper sourcing networks; through owned recycling stations, direct collection from primary sources and local suppliers, as well as diversified import sources from the USA, Europe, Japan, and Oceania.

Kao Industrial (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of consumer and chemical products, and SCG Packaging PLC, to be a leading multinational consumer packaging solutions provider, have recently signed a memorandum of cooperation to introduce innovations and sustainability to consumers with an aim to reduce pollution and create a livable and sustainable world for future generations.

Kao is aiming to reduce CO2 emissions to Zero by 2040 and achieve ZERO Plastic Packaging Wastes by 2040. In other words, the amount of plastic used must equal the amount of reused or recycled plastic.

Deltalab S.L. in SCGP joins hand with Meditop to push forward healthcare business and accelerate the growth in Asia

SCGP by Mr. Karan Tejasen, Chief Operating Officer – Performance and Polymer Packaging Business and Miss Thanissara Pathanavibul, Manager – Business Integration and Deltalab S.L. in SCGP led by Mr. Jose Saez Mateos, Managing Director, and Dr. Pongsuda Pongtanya, Deputy Managing Director attends the DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT signing ceremony with Meditop Co., Ltd. represented by Suvimol  Sangkatumvong, Ph.D., Managing Director and Ms. Pornthip  Leammukda, Vice President.

According to the agreement, this project aims to build collaborative development and expand healthcare business both in Thailand and Asia. Moreover, the cooperation will enable healthcare data sharing with the major distributor in the country, leading to further development in health and medical products, production, and services, which contribute to sustainable growth together.
