As SCG Packaging is officially on its way into the Thai stock market, it is now preparing itself for initial public offering (IPO). At such crucial juncture, it is necessary for the firm to communicate efficiently with investors/stakeholders. The firm’s Investor Relations (IR) team, therefore, has got a big role to play. In this volume, a LOT interviews the firm’s Investor Relations Director Wachara Iamsakun and Investor Relations Associate Directors Vikorn Phongsathorn, Panadda Sukpanthavorn and Vimonmarn Krishnakalin to get to know more about their unit.
Investor Relations – Roles and Challenges
The IR team says the firm’s shares will be sold at IPO so as to raise fund for its business growth. In this regard, IR team is responsible for releasing accurate and complete key information such as information on SCG Packaging’s business operations, products and services, competitiveness, and potential for investors, analysts, and stakeholders to make a decision.
Major challenges for the task surround the mission to promote the right understanding among outsiders. “IR is a link between outsiders and the firm. We have to engage in two-way communications with the right balance. We communicate with both outsiders and our own staff. Information received from others must be communicated to SCG Packaging so that the firm can make improvements,” Panadda explains.
Knowing SCG Packaging & Understanding Investors
Vikorn says IR team focuses on “giving information in an easy-to-understand way, making listeners see the picture,” and keeping pace with trends and consumers’ changing behaviors.
“We have also customized our delivery of information to suit the needs of each target,” he reveals.
Vimonmarn adds that, “Communications with outsiders let us see the actual value of our own firm. When outsiders have questions, we will find out answers for them.”
Flexible & Ready for Anything
COVID-19 has changed the IR team’s way of working significantly. Team members, however, have overcome emerging obstacles on the basis of flexibility and ability to adapt fast to new circumstances.
Panadda considers flexibility, teamwork and communication skills as key factors to keep works going during COVID-19 situation.
“Everyone must be dynamic and able to work from anywhere. We may not be able to host any big events these days. But with internet and smartphones, we can organize virtual meetings,” Vikorn says.
Mellow Blend of Differences
All members of the IR team have abilities and knowledge useful to its mission. Although they are not similar in all aspects, their differences prove to be assets.
“Differences, when blended, are mellow,” Wachara says. Panadda, meanwhile, says her team members are open-minded, ready to take up challenges, and have positive thinking.
“Teamwork and Handle with Care makes us work so happily,” she quips.
Vikorn says the IR team looks for diversity and outgoing personality from its members too.
“Our members can come together, like different LEGO pieces, and form a formidable structure,” Wachara says.
