SCGP took part in the ProPak Asia 2023 press conference, a platform that showcases industry products and technology related to manufacturing, processing, and packaging in Asia. Karan Tejasen, Chief Operating Officer of SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SCGP) and the Chairman of Vexcel Pack Company Limited represented the private sector at the event, providing updates on packaging solution trends for marketing and sustainability. The press conference was held on Tuesday, 16 May 2023, at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel.
Karan Tejasen discussed current packaging trends, noting that consumers are increasingly seeking packaging that not only meets their needs for convenience and versatility in use but also aligns with growing demands for environmentally friendly options. This shift in consumer behavior means that packaging designers and manufacturers must pay heightened attention to the presentation of their products. With an ambition to be a leader in total packaging solutions in the ASEAN, SCGP has emphasised developing packaging that meets these consumer needs by offering solutions that meet customer demands. The company believes that packaging serves not only to contain and protect products, but also to enhance marketing value, promote a positive image, and create a compelling experience for brand products.
Furthermore, SCGP is focusing on the development of sustainable packaging. Examples include flexible packaging made from mono-material, which can be easily recycled, and packaging that incorporates recycled resins, as seen in rPET packaging for household items, shampoo, and dishwashing liquid. Another notable innovation is the OptiBreath® packaging, designed by SCGP to extend the shelf-life of products and thereby reduce food waste. This packaging has extended the shelf-life of fresh fruits and vegetables. For instance, customers have used the packaging to extend the shelf-life of polish coconuts from 30 days to 60 days and fresh whole coconuts from 60 days to 90 days. This has enabled customers to expand their fruit export markets, accommodating the long transportation times required for shipping. The packaging helps to enhance brand image and add marketing value to the products.
“In developing sustainable packaging, manufacturers must consider the entire value chain, from design and reducing the use of raw materials, to ease of reuse or recycling, environmentally friendly manufacturing processes, and appropriate packaging and transportation steps. This also involves collaborating with customer networks to jointly develop packaging that fulfills consumer needs and takes care of the environment as a whole,” said Karan.
